Cloth Personalities at Sit and Sew

Doll elfDoll dragonWe had some fabulous visitors to our March Sit and Sew meeting. Jan Brasher and Mary Connolly from the Trolly Dollies Cloth doll makers talked about their creations and showed us some wonderful examples. Cloth dolls have such intriguing personalities and often have minds of their own when it comes to how they will turn out and the clothes they will wear.

Next Sit and Sew will have a display of work by our creative group known as GeeTag (Geelong Textiles Arts Group) Join us on Monday April 13th at 10am

Patchwork everywhere at Sit and Sew

"Arrival of the Rajah Quilt" in progress

“Arrival of the Rajah Quilt” in progress

We held our first Sit and Sew meeting for the year today with a great turnout and several new members welcomed.

On Display this month were the works of our talented Patchwork group. They impressed us with everything from a Teddy Bear, Crazy Quilting, Dresden Plates and Double Wedding Rings. There was even a teeny weeny Suffolk Puff quilt made for a dolls house.

Our guest speaker Eva Abbinga described the Rajah Quilt made by convict women on their voyage to Australia. She outlined the quilting project that she is running at the National Wool Museum this month   Click for more details of the Rajah Quilt

Our first classes for this year are Fabric Postcards (Feb 18th) and Macbeth Bauble and

This year the wonderful Christmas at The Johnston Collection decorations were created by members of the Artisans of Geelong Group. EGV Geelong belongs to this group and many of the creations this year were embroidered by our members.

The Exhibition includes some breathtakingly special works and is well worth a trip. You need to make a booking and you have until 24th February to see the items displayed in the rooms that Mr Johnston filled with his delightful collection of antiques and curiosities

Our AGM was a happy occasion with visiting EGV President Ann Denmead presenting badges to our new committee members (who just happen to be the same as our old committee). We also welcomed Carolyn Paulin, Country Liason Officer and Bev Lane, Education Coordinator to our celebrations.

Our Annual General Meeting

Our AGM will be held at our Sit and Sew meeting next Monday 14th December 2014 at St Davids Church Hall, Aphrasia Street Newtown.

Join us from 10am and enjoy good company while you stitch. Bring your lunch and stay until we finish at 2pm.

A Display of work produced for the Intermediate Certificate subject the Art of Stitch will be featured and should prove to be a highlight.
