A New Year of Stitching

We have started the year on a high note with a new committee elected at our recent AGM. Congratulations to President Trish VanKuyk and to Alana Young, Ann Horne, Christine Casey, Jenny Bakos, Leonie Lister, Margaret McDonald, Pauline Veale, Sue Patterson and Vicki Smart who will form the 2023 committee.

Classes have begun and most of our groups have now had their first meetings for the year. For more information about these please go to their pages: CLASSES and GROUPS

We have already planned several special activities, The first is an introductory class at the Geelong West Library on Friday 31st March. This is open to the public so anyone can join in.

We will be – Sharing Stitches also at the Geelong West Library on Friday 21st April during the National Trust Heritage Festival. There will be a display of our work and demonstrations of stitching and a chance to try out your own skills.

Our long awaited Exhibition 2023 “UP UP AND AWAY !” will be held on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th September at the Geelong West Town Hall

Another new year – Here’s to a good one!

We are making a new start with the hope that we will be able to get together more often. We do enjoy our friendships and shared love of stitching.

Our first Sit and Sew meeting this year will be on Monday 14th February 10am – 2pm at St David’s Church Hall Aphrasia Street Newtown. We’d love to see everyone there and look forward to meeting some of our new members again, or for the first time!

It’s also our AGM when our new committee will be voted in. If you’d like to help running our branch or think a friend would be great in this role please contact us before 21st January.

Classes and Workshops will be up and running soon. First up some cute Rabbits.

Our smaller groups will also be getting under way – the Canvas work group are first up with a Round Box Top mini workshop, 20th January. Patchwork Group meets on Tuesday 25th January

Counted Thread enthusiasts will have a meeting on Monday February 7 10.30am- 1pm at South Barwon Community Centre, Mount Pleasant Rd Belmont. We will see if there are enough people to form a new group. If you love Assisi, Hardanger, Blackwork, Cross stitch, Pulled or Drawn Thread, Shwalm or any other counting stitches please think about joining in. The group will share knowledge and perhaps have a program of learning new stitches.

Artisan Books and Geetag (Textile Arts Group) – Saturday 12th Feb and Slow Stitch Thursday 10th Feb (good for beginners) are also keen to get going again.

Wyndham Vale group will also be meeting to decide on their future meetings so keep an eye out for info.

Our famous Garage Sale will be held on Saturday 26th March so start going through your stash to find donations – bring these to Sit and Sew or contact us for a pick up.

We had our Annual General Meeting in October this year, as we will do from now on. It used to get very busy around Christmas time so now we can just celebrate!

A new committee was elected with Wendy Findlay, President of the EGV presiding. A very welcome guest along with Jenni Smith.

Committee for 2020 is:  Leonie Lister (President), Jenny Bakos, Yvonne Davidson, Ann Lawrence (Secretary), Marilyn Marshall (Treasurer), Anne Monagle, Gillian Norris, Dianne Richmond and Marion Dines (co-opted as minutes Secretary)

Christmas will be celebrated by many of our groups, as well as the Big Sit and Sew Bring- a – Plate shared lunch on Monday 9th December. All are welcome to this meeting at St David’s Church Hall starting at 10am. Bring something to sew and join in the fun.

of their work. This quilt was put together by Lyn Hughes using blocks made by group members in a workshop on scrappy blocks. Random choices made for a colourful finish.

The Year moves on

We are about to have our Annual General Meeting at which we ratify the appointment of those members who have been nominated to positions on the committee for next year. Thanks to those who have thrown their names into the ring this time.

The meeting is on Monday 10th December from 10am at St David’s Hall, Aphrasia Street Newtown. We welcome new members to join our many activities.

Summer School is an exciting time for us and there are so many things to try.  See the Classes page for full details.

Blackwork, Scrumbling, Brenda’s Rackham Fragments and Needle lace are all on the list. Drawing for design is an important skill that we all need and we have a tutor from South Australia – Lorelle Leham to set us on the right path.

Kathryn Harmer Fox is to visit later in the year, very exciting.

We are also planning a retreat at Melrose Cottage in Ballan 15th – 17th April, Contact us now if you are interested

We enjoyed our Annual General Meeting in December with our visitors from Melbourne and elected our new committee for 2017. Our new President is Lyn Hughes. Retiring President Valda King was thanked for the amazing work she has done to keep our group vibrantly alive with a bright future.

A new beginning

ACommittee 2016smt our December Annual General Meeting we welcomed our Guild President and Vice President  Ann Denmead and Linda Hagar. Ann officiated for the election of the Branch Committee for next year. All nominees were elected.

Valda King – President,   Marion Dines – Minutes Secretary,  Gillian Dawson – Treasurer,   Anna Schroeter – Assistant treasurer,   Tina Elms – Correspondence Secretary,   Gillian Norris – Classes Convenor,  and committee members: Brenda Ryan, Lesley Duff, Yvonne Davidson and Margaret Neill.

Our outgoing Committee members Glenys Sikorsky and Pauline Mackenzie were given a token of our thanks for a job well done.

We sewed, lunched and chatted until time to wish everyone a Happy Christmas and a Stitching New Year!

Our first general meeting for 2016 is on Monday 8th February and some of our groups will be starting up again in late January. (Patchwork and 4th Saturday)
